This trail leads to a 425-meter-high peak, offering a spectacular view of Saco do Mamanguá, an inlet known as the world's only "tropical fjord" (although technically it is a ria). The view from the summit is the highlight (literally!) of the hike, providing incredible photo opportunities of Saco do Mamanguá and the surrounding Atlantic Forest.
Location: In Saco do Mamanguá, Paraty. The trail begins at Praia do Cruzeiro, which is accessible only by boat.
🥾 Trekking Trail:
- Extension: Around 1,5 km (one way).
- Difficulty Level: The trail to the peak is considered moderately difficult to difficult due to its steep incline. We recommend wearing sneakers and bringing your own water.
- Ascent time: Varies from 1 hour to 1 hour and 30 minutes, depending on each participant's pace and physical condition. The descent is faster but also steep.
- Features: The trail is well-marked, and fixed ropes are available to assist with the ascent on some of the steeper sections. It runs primarily through dense Atlantic Forest, making it quite hot.
🌴 Itinerary:
📍 Stop 1: Cruzeiro Square and Pão de Açúcar Peak
The challenge and the reward. Our first stop is strategic. This is where the trail to Pão de Açúcar Peak begins. The sailor will guide the group on the start of the hike. The ascent is steep and requires physical fitness, but the view from the top is considered the most beautiful in the region.
- Flexibility: Stop times will be adjusted according to the group's pace. While some adventurers make the climb, those who prefer can enjoy the tranquility of Praia do Cruzeiro.
📍 Stop 2: Engenho Beach & Crepúsculo Waterfall
Recharging. After the hike down, we sailed to Engenho Beach. It was a chance to relax on the sand or walk to Crepúsculo Waterfall—the perfect spot to rinse off the salt in fresh water and soothe your muscles after the hike.
📍 Stop 3: Ilha dos Cocos
Paraty’s natural aquarium. On the way back, we stop at Ilha dos Cocos. It is famous for its incredibly clear, greenish waters. Get your snorkel ready: here, you will swim among schools of colorful fish in a true open-air aquarium.
📍 Stop 4: Tapera Fort
The panoramic farewell. Our final stop offers a unique historical and visual perspective. From Fort Tapera, we enjoy a prime panoramic view of the entire Bay of Paraty. It is the perfect moment for the group's final photos with the horizon in the background before we return to the pier.

1. Do I need experience to hike the trail? The Pico Pão de Açúcar trail is steep and requires good physical fitness. You don't need to be a pro, but be prepared for a workout! If you prefer not to hike up, you can relax on the beach while waiting for the group.
2. What happens if I don't want to complete the hike? No problem! The boatman stays at the beach base to provide support. You can enjoy a swim in the sea while the others hike up.
3. Does the tour run on rainy days? In the event of heavy rain or winds that compromise safety, the tour is cancelled and/or rescheduled. Light, passing showers are common in the area and do not prevent the tour from going ahead as planned.
4. Can children come along? Yes, but for the Pico hike, we recommend it only for children over 10 who are accustomed to physical activity. The speedboat tour itself is safe for all ages.
5. Is there a place to have lunch during the tour? Yes! We make a strategic stop where there are *caiçara*-style restaurants serving fresh fish (meals are not included in the tour price).
